Overview

The Aerospace Structural Welder position is pending contract award and is located at AFRC CRF Little Rock AFB. The role involves performing fusion welding on aircraft and ground support equipment according to qualified Welding Procedures Specification (WPS) and requires the ability to read and understand engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fusion welding on aircraft and ground support equipment.
  • Read and understand engineering drawings and welding symbols.
  • Fabricate manufacture-welded parts from engineering drawings without direct supervision.
  • Perform fusion welding and torch brazing for ground support equipment.
  • Select correct filler materials and shielding gas for welding.
  • Produce flight critical welds and assist in developing Weld Procedure Specifications.
  • Determine the sequence of welding to prevent warping.
  • Design and fabricate weld holding fixtures as necessary.
  • Perform pre-heat and post weld stress relief operations.
  • Maintain weld records and inspect own welds.
  • Train and re-certify less qualified welders.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Aerospace Structural Welding processes, procedures, and techniques.
  • Knowledgeable of technical directives and Air Force aviation maintenance programs.
  • Experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy.
  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals.
  • Experience fabricating jigs and fixtures for repairs.
  • Ability to use cutting tools, saws, drills, etc.
  • Experience performing close tolerance repairs.
  • Ability to identify and use proper aviation grades, temper, and thickness of sheet metal.
  • Experience requisitioning repair parts and materials through military supply systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and specifications.
  • Experience performing general housekeeping and organization of workstations.
  • Seven or more years' recent experience as an Aerospace Structural Welder.
  • Must be qualified as an Aerospace Structural Welder.
  • Four or more years' experience as an Aerospace Structural Welder.
  • Familiarity with Hazardous Material Handling and general shop procedures.
  • Ability to work 1st or 2nd shift schedule if required.
  • Ability to work flexible work-week schedules.
  • Eligibility for a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Ability to obtain favorable National Agency Check with Written Inquiries (NACI).
  • Ability to climb ladders and raised platforms.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
