Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Steel Worker to join our team and assist in cutting, modifying, and assembling steel components for truck chassis and bodies. This role is hands-on and requires experience with metal cutting tools, fabrication techniques, and a strong understanding of structural integrity.
Responsibilities
- Cut, shape, and modify steel truck assemblies to meet custom specifications and production standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders.
- Operate fabrication equipment such as torches, plasma cutters, saws, grinders, and welding machines.
- Measure and mark materials for cutting or alteration using hand tools and layout instruments.
- Ensure accuracy and structural integrity of modifications and repairs.
- Assist in assembling, fitting, and securing steel parts in place using various means (bolts, clamps, etc.).
- Inspect completed work for quality and compliance with specifications.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with company and OSHA standards.
- Communicate with supervisors and engineers regarding job progress, issues, or design changes.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training in metal fabrication is a plus.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with steel in a fabrication, construction, or industrial setting.
- Proficiency in using power tools and measuring devices.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Familiarity with truck assembly or automotive chassis modification is highly desirable.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus but not required.
Additional Information
- Indoor/outdoor shop setting with exposure to noise, heat, sparks, and heavy equipment.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
- Occasional overtime or weekend work depending on project deadlines.
- Must be flexible and willing to perform additional tasks that are assigned by the supervisor in ensuring successful completion of the program.
- Duration of assignment will be approximately 18 months.
