Overview
The Welder P&I position involves selecting materials and equipment for welding tasks, applying various welding techniques, and assembling structural forms according to specifications. The role requires proficiency in multiple welding processes and the ability to produce welds that meet non-destructive examination requirements.
Responsibilities
- Selects type and size of pipe or related materials and equipment according to specifications.
- Plans layouts, assembly, and welding using knowledge of geometry and metal properties.
- Uses various welding processes including Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc.
- Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together in various body positions.
- Bolts, clamps, and welds metal components of products such as piping systems and structural shapes.
- Connects cable from welding unit to obtain specified amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse.
- Obtains specified electrode and prepares it for use in welding.
- Assembles structural forms such as machinery frames and pressure vessels according to blueprints.
Requirements
- Capable of certifying on multi-process pipe welding.
- Proficient in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW welding processes.
- Able to produce welds that meet NDE (non-destructive examination) requirements.
