Overview

The Pipe Installer is a traveling position based in Jeffersonville, IN, responsible for installing, assembling, and securing various piping systems in industrial and construction environments. The role emphasizes safety, craftsmanship, and collaboration while providing opportunities for skill development in diverse installations.

Responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, and secure pipes, fittings, and related components according to blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes using hand tools, power tools, and specialized machinery.
  • Inspect worksite conditions and prepare required materials, tools, and equipment before beginning installation.
  • Test piping systems for leaks, pressure integrity, and proper operation using appropriate testing methods and equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other trades to coordinate installation activities and resolve onsite issues.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, materials used, and any system changes or modifications.
  • Follow all OSHA, company, and industry safety protocols at all times.
  • Troubleshoot and repair existing piping systems, identifying issues and implementing effective solutions.
  • Perform general labor tasks related to construction and installation, including material handling, site cleanup, and equipment setup.
  • Assist with duct work, duct installation, and sheet metal or cast iron fabrication as needed to support project requirements.
  • Use tape measures and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and ensure precise installation.
  • Work with HVAC-related piping and components when required by project scope.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in industrial pipefitting, plumbing, or mechanical installation.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, and technical drawings.
  • Proficiency with pipe installation tools such as threaders, cutters, welders, and torches.
  • Strong understanding of industrial materials including steel, copper, PVC, and specialty alloys.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for pipe and duct installation.
  • Competence in measuring, cutting, threading, and bending pipes with accuracy.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy materials, work at heights, and operate in industrial environments.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Trade school education or completion of an apprenticeship in pipefitting, plumbing, or a related mechanical field is preferred.
  • Experience working with HVAC systems and duct work in industrial or construction settings.
  • Background in sheet metal, cast iron, and general fabrication work.
  • Familiarity with construction site practices and general labor tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail when following blueprints and technical specifications.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with engineers and other trades.
  • Solid documentation skills for recording work performed, materials used, and system changes.
