Overview
As an NRG employee, you will provide mechanical maintenance support to maintain equipment in an electrical generating power plant, with opportunities for career development in a dynamic work environment.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, test, inspect, and repair equipment such as boilers, turbines, pumps, motors, valves, and condensers.
- Replace bearings, packing in pumps and valves, shaft seals, sleeves, seats, and other parts used in plant equipment.
- Troubleshoot stationary and rotating equipment and make repairs as needed.
- Operate machine shop equipment such as drill presses, lathes, and boring mills.
- Repair or replace defective parts and adjust clearances and tolerances on equipment.
- Use micrometers and other precision devices.
- Design and build special tools and apparatuses to facilitate work.
- Check equipment operation by observing oil pressures and levels and gather routine vibration data.
- Perform gas and/or arc welding in mechanical repairs and fabrication.
- Perform plumbing and pipe fitting tasks.
- Remove and install non-asbestos insulation materials on various equipment.
- Develop proficiency with SAP in all job-related areas.
- Use blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and specifications in daily duties.
- Set up rigging for installing and removing equipment.
- Identify and order proper materials for job completion.
- Document work performed for equipment histories.
- Apply knowledge of environmental rules and regulations in all work situations.
- Review and/or develop equipment spare parts lists and PM procedures.
- Communicate effectively with all plant personnel.
- Provide direction and/or supervise outside resources as necessary.
- Recognize safety hazards and follow applicable safety guidelines.
- Support skill enhancement by assisting and mentoring other personnel.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent knowledge of English, mathematics, and grammar.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in mechanical maintenance in power plant or industrial equipment.
- Must pass a pre-employment DOT drug screen and drug and alcohol testing background check.
- Associates degree or equivalent apprenticeship preferred.
- Ability to use hand tools and operate company vehicles and equipment.
- Knowledge of rotating equipment and general industrial maintenance activities.
- Ability to follow and interpret written and verbal job instructions.
Additional Information
- Must be prepared to work irregular or rotating shifts and respond to emergency callouts 24/7.
- Employee must arrange own transportation to work location.
