Overview
The Welder/Fabricator in the Embed Department is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and welding of metal embeds used in precast concrete production. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and adherence to quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Inspect tools, welding machines, fabrication equipment, and PPE before each use.
- Report and tag out any damaged or unsafe tools or equipment.
- Measure and mark metal parts to prepare for cutting, punching, and welding.
- Operate fabrication equipment such as ironworkers, bandsaws, chop saws, drill presses, and grinders.
- Weld components according to blueprints, ensuring proper penetration, alignment, and finish.
- Assemble embeds and verify fit, function, and quality prior to release to production.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols accurately.
- Verify dimensions and tolerances using measuring tools such as tape measures, squares, calipers, and gauges.
- Perform self-inspections of completed work to ensure it meets project specifications and quality standards.
- Safely move, position, and store materials using forklifts, cranes, or other approved material handling equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to promote efficiency and safety.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and welding/fabrication safety standards.
- Use proper PPE, welding screens, and ventilation practices when working.
- Participate in safety meetings and required training sessions.
- Assist in troubleshooting fabrication or welding issues as needed.
- Collaborate with team members to improve fabrication processes.
- Perform preventative maintenance on welding and fabrication equipment as directed.
Requirements
- Proficient in MIG, stick, or flux-core welding (depending on project requirements).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols.
- Experience operating fabrication tools and machines.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
