Overview
McCombs Steel Company, an AISC certified steel fabrication company founded in 1929, is seeking a skilled Welder/Fabricator to join their team in Statesville, NC. This position offers an opportunity for growth and development within a leading US contractor providing structural steel packages for warehouse buildings, along with a competitive compensation package and excellent benefits.
Responsibilities
- Pass an AWS weld test in the 2F position using FCAW.
- Lay out, position and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications.
- Ensure all parts are fitted and welded correctly.
- Read weld symbols and check weld size using weld fillet gauges.
- Set machines according to procedure charts.
- Follow weld procedures as it applies to volts, amps & wire feed speed.
- Remove rough spots from workpieces using portable power tools.
- Heat material to required temperature using temperature sticks and heating torches/cutting torches.
- Follow guidance and correct assemblies per quality control's instruction.
- Operate an overhead bridge crane daily.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Requirements
- Ability to read a tape measure required.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and shop drawings.
- Knowledge of AWS welding symbols is required.
- Ability to recognize and use the correct WPS for the process and joint design that will be welded.
- Ability to pass a 2G weld test is a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of the organization.
- Keen attention to detail to identify maintenance, product or operations issues.
- Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stand or perform repetitive movements for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Must possess strong work ethic.
- Must be a team player.
- High school diploma or GED required.

Additional Information
- This is a first shift position with 11 hour shifts from 6am - 5pm.
- Currently working 60 hour weeks due to high production demand.
- Pay based on experience.
