Overview
The Hand Welder is responsible for precision welding of stainless steel, requiring strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings. This role is crucial for producing high-quality stainless steel assemblies for various applications while adhering to strict quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform TIG (GTAW) welding on various gauges and thicknesses of stainless steel components.
- Interpret and follow blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols to ensure accurate fabrication.
- Set up and maintain welding equipment, including torches, gas flow, and filler materials.
- Inspect welded joints for strength, dimensions, and overall quality using visual inspection and gauges.
- Grind, polish, and finish welds to meet aesthetic and sanitary standards as required.
- Fit, align, and tack components prior to final welding.
- Maintain cleanliness of weld zones to prevent contamination in stainless steel work.
- Follow company safety procedures, including use of PPE and safe handling of materials.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to ensure efficient workflow.
- Assist in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1+ year TIG welding experience in a stainless steel fabrication environment.
- High school diploma or GED; technical training or certification in welding preferred.
- Proficient in TIG welding stainless steel (thin and thick gauge).
- Knowledge of weld joint design, filler materials, and stainless steel metallurgy.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols.
- Strong focus on precision, quality, and craftsmanship.
- Experience in sanitary or food-grade welding a plus.
