Overview

Egger Steel Company has been a leading provider of structural steel fabrication in the Upper Midwest for more than 80 years. We are seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to support quality control within our steel fabrication operations, ensuring that welded products meet all applicable codes, customer specifications, and internal quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Inspect weldments to ensure compliance with AWS codes, project specifications, and company standards.
• Perform inspections on bridge girders and structural steel assemblies throughout fabrication.
• Verify weld quality, fit-up, and dimensional requirements prior to shipment.
• Inspect surface preparation and paint coatings on bridge girders to ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
• Maintain welding procedures, welder qualifications, and inspection documentation.
• Identify quality issues, support root cause analysis, and assist with corrective actions.
• Work with production teams to improve weld quality and fabrication consistency.

Requirements

• Active AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
• 5+ years of welding, fabrication, or manufacturing quality experience.
• Knowledge of AWS D1.1 structural welding code.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and weld symbols.
• Experience with structural steel preferred.
• Familiarity with coating or paint inspection on structural steel is a plus.
