Job Description

Overview

CB&I® is the world’s leading designer and builder of storage facilities, tanks and terminals, with over 60,000 structures completed in its 135+ year history. The Tank Welder role involves laying out, aligning, and welding various components to assemble structural forms according to blueprints and metallurgy.

Responsibilities

  • Selects type and size of pipe or other related materials and equipment according to specifications.
  • Selects equipment and plans layouts, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry and welding techniques.
  • May use various welding processes including Gas-Metal Arc and Shielded Metal Arc.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns and fits components together in various body positions.
  • Bolts, clamps and welds together metal components using arc and arc gas welding equipment.
  • Connects cable from welding unit to obtain specified amperage and voltage.
  • Starts power supply to produce electric current and strikes arc to generate heat for welding.
  • Manually guides electrode or gun along weld-line to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
  • May manually apply filler rod and clean or degrease weld joint or workplace.
  • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in lifting, positioning and securing of materials during installation.
  • Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Respiratory protection may be required.
  • Must pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
  • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Ability to make decisions based on measurable criteria.
  • Basic mathematics skills to solve problems.
  • Ability to visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
  • Ability to compare and see differences in size, shape, and form of objects.
