Overview
Alpha Iron is a leading provider of structural steel fabrication services, seeking an experienced and certified Structural Steel Welder/Fitter to join their skilled team. The role involves the layout, fitting, and welding of steel components according to structural codes.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
- Fit and assemble structural steel components using appropriate tools and fixtures.
- Perform full-penetration and fillet welds using FCAW, SMAW, and/or GMAW processes.
- Work to AWS D1.1 and D1.8 code standards, including seismic welding requirements.
- Use measuring tools such as squares, levels, tape measures, and angle finders.
- Set up and operate welding equipment, grinders, torches, and cutting tools.
- Inspect and ensure quality of welds using visual inspection and measuring tools.
- Maintain safe work practices and adhere to company safety policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Minimum 5-7 years of structural steel welding and fitting experience.
- Current AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Certification (required).
- AWS D1.8 Seismic Welding Certification (required).
- Strong knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and structural steel behavior.
- Ability to read and understand fabrication blueprints and welding symbols.
- Proficiency with FCAW, SMAW, and GMAW processes.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. and work in various physical positions.
- Familiarity with welding safety protocols and PPE requirements.
- Reliable transportation and punctuality.
- High school diploma or GED (preferred); trade school or technical training is a plus.
- Experience working in AISC-certified fabrication facilities.
- OSHA 10/30 certification.
- Ability to operate overhead cranes and forklifts.
