Overview
The Fitter/Welder is responsible for interpreting blueprints, fitting and welding structural steel components, and working with various tools and welding techniques to fabricate parts as per engineering specifications and industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, isometric drawings, welding symbols and follow appropriate WPS.
- Layout, fit, and tack-weld components using jigs, fixtures, or hand tools to assemble parts accurately before final welding.
- Perform MIG (GMAW) & or (FCAW) welding on structural steel, plate, pipe and occasionally stainless steel or aluminum.
- Use measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and squares to ensure precise fabrication.
- Grind, drill, cut, and clean steel components as needed during the fabrication process.
- Inspect welds to ensure quality, strength, and alignment according to specifications.
- Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and hand tools safely and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, following all health, safety, and environmental protocols.
- Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other fabrication team members to meet project deadlines.
Requirements
- Min experience 6 months.
- Basic understanding of fabrication drawings, Weld symbols and WPS’s.
- Basic understanding for forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Basic clean up grinding and tagging.
- Ability to stand, kneel, or crouch for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting 50lbs or more and working in physically demanding environments.
- May work in confined spaces, at heights, or outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Use of PPE required: welding helmet, safety glasses, gloves, flame-resistant clothing, leather work boots composite or steel toe.
