Overview
The Welder III position at Progress Rail involves operating various hand-welding and flame-cutting equipment to weld, fabricate, or join work pieces together. Progress Rail is a leading provider of railroad products and services, committed to innovation and excellence since 1983.
Responsibilities
- Pass internal welding certification in conjunction with requirements under ISO, AAR, and other regulatory agencies.
- Retrieve materials assembled and weld into a finished product.
- Set up components for welding according to specifications.
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
- Interpret welding blueprints, assembly instructions, drawings, JSA’s, and bills of material.
- Maintain welding proficiency as required by Progress Rail QSP 4.9 and applicable standards.
- Accurately use measuring devices such as tape measures, scales, and calipers.
- Use various hand tools, pneumatic and electric powered grinders, impact wrenches, and overhead cranes.
- Master various welds such as pipe weld, GMAW, SMAW, etc. in all positions.
- Perform preventative and basic maintenance of weld machines and equipment.
Requirements
- Certified Welder.
- Knowledge of various types of welding (Mig, MMA, Stick, Tig).
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Skill Level III – 2-3 years of experience as a welder, certification in GMAW and FCAW preferred.
- Ability to train others.
- Forklift certified.
