Overview
Keel is a company formed by combining three industry leaders in steel fabrication, shipbuilding, aerospace, and defense manufacturing. The Welder I position is an entry-level role focused on learning and performing basic welding tasks under close supervision, responsible for joining, fabricating, and repairing metal components using established techniques and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable materials using appropriate welding processes.
- Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to determine correct welding methods.
- Set welding machine parameters with guidance from supervisors.
- Inspect completed welds for structural soundness and adherence to specifications.
- Apply basic knowledge of Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of Oxy-Fuel Cutting, Carbon Arc Cutting, and Plasma Arc Cutting.
- Use hand tools such as grinders, tape measures, chipping hammers, and personal protective equipment effectively.
- Maintain safe work practices and follow company safety standards.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent may be required.
- Technical training in welding preferred.
- Less than 1 year of welding experience or equivalent.
- May require completion of an apprenticeship or formal training in area of specialty.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- May be required to stand, walk, sit, reach/pull/push with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel regularly.
- May lift or carry 50lbs. Weights exceeding 50lbs will require mechanical means to maneuver.
