Overview
The Journeyman - PIPE/WELDER is responsible for setting up equipment and welding parts using various welding machines, handling the layout, assembly, installation, and repair of plumbing systems according to specifications and building codes. Responsibilities
- Sets up equipment and welds parts using arc, submerged arc, gas-shielded arc, mig, and tig machines.
- Collaborates with plumbers, pipefitter/welders, sheet metal workers, and HVAC workers.
- Selects type and size of pipe and materials according to job specifications and building plans.
- Maintains quality and production standards for all work products.
- Studies specifications, building plans, and shop drawings to determine required work aids.
- Secures pipes to structure using clamps, brackets, and hangers.
- Keeps the work area clean and orderly, adhering to safety regulations.
- Inspects structures to avoid obstructions during pipe installation.
- Lays out and marks positions for pipes and passage holes using various tools.
- Cuts openings in walls and floors for pipe and fittings.
- Installs sleeves and leave outs for roof and wall penetrations.
- Helps excavate, backfill, and tamp ditches.
- Cuts, reams, solders, brazes, fuses, solvent welds, grooves, threads pipe, and pressfittings.
- Lays out, positions, aligns, fits, tack-welds, assembles, and installs valves, hangers, pipe, and fittings.
- Bends pipe by hand or with a pipe-bending machine.
- Fills pipe systems with water or air to check for leaks.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.
