Overview
This Diesel Mechanic position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of light- and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment under the supervision of the Shop Supervisor. The role involves performing mechanical work, diagnostics, and providing training to new employees.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair, service, and operate all department vehicles and equipment.
- Operate a variety of vehicles and construction equipment for road construction and maintenance projects.
- Perform routine to complex maintenance, diagnostics, welding, and repairs on various vehicles and equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance and organize scheduling for all light to heavy equipment.
- Test equipment for proper operation using test equipment.
- Complete work area clean-up tasks and assist other mechanics and welders as needed.
- Maintain awareness of safety policies and procedures.
- Attend necessary training such as mine safety, OSHA, Hazmat, First Aid/CPR, and Defensive Driving.
- Provide training to new division employees and assign/plan work.
- Review assigned work for technical accuracy and compliance.
Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written English language skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in basic computer systems and software.
- Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems.
- Ability to use welding equipment and tools.
- Ability to interpret repair manuals.
- Knowledge of mechanical repair and maintenance procedures for light- and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
- Knowledge of mechanic shop tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Ability to obtain Defensive Driving certificate.
- Electric over hydraulic certification.
- Airbrake certification, preferred.
- A/C certification, preferred.
