Overview

Challenge Manufacturing is a leading tier 1 supplier of complex metal assemblies for the global automotive industry, committed to operational excellence and employee ownership. The Weld Technician role involves providing production support through setup, troubleshooting, and operations of automated welding cells.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and comply with all safety, environmental, regulatory, and statutory requirements.
  • Follow all safety procedures and protocols while servicing or maintaining equipment.
  • Perform machine cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using hand measurement tools.
  • Conduct weld tip/cap changes and weld gun maintenance.
  • Execute change over processes of stationary welders and automated cells.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on fixtures and cells, including lubrication of components.
  • Run the Red Rabbit process and troubleshoot issues if failures occur.
  • Understand and adjust weld fixtures and common sensors.
  • Troubleshoot basic welding technology issues.
  • Utilize Plex for documentation and locating parts.
  • Manage dispense systems and perform necessary inspections.
  • Understand nut feeder operations and make adjustments as needed.
  • Perform basic cell resets and touch up robotic programmed points.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must pass and maintain industrial truck and aerial platform licenses.
  • Successful completion of the Weld Technician course.
  • Minimum of 1 year working as a Weld Operator.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience with automated welding applications.
  • 2-year technical degree preferred.
  • Experience with ABB and Fanuc robots preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and navigate teach pendant or flex pendant.
  • Ability to manually manipulate a robot or external axes.
  • Ability to use hand tools properly.
  • Ability to lift/move material weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Understanding of weld processes.
  • Reliability regarding performance and attendance.
  • Adhere to all safety rules of the plant.

Additional Information

  • This is a 2nd Shift position from 1:30pm to 9:30pm M-F located at the Plant in Spartanburg, SC.
  • Occasionally requires early arrival, late stays, or weekend work.
