Overview
This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, Industrial Department, Structural Shop in Baltimore, MD. The role involves performing various shipfitting and welding tasks for the construction, repair, and maintenance of marine vessels.
Responsibilities
- Identify different types of metal and alloys and determine thickness and proper grade.
- Develop templates, layout, and fabricate complex and simple sub-assemblies including shell plates, frames, and bulkheads.
- Use plasma arc and oxy-acetylene torch for burning, flushing, and heating material.
- Use lifting gear to move and regulate material on the job.
- Erect hull components on site according to specified lines.
- Perform tack-welding tasks in various positions using SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW equipment.
Requirements
- Journeyman shipfitting and welding skills.
- Experience with metal identification and fabrication.
- Ability to operate plasma arc and oxy-acetylene torches.
- Familiarity with lifting gear and hull component erection.
- Training in welding techniques and safety practices.
