Overview
This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration, Erie VA Medical Center, Facilities Management Service, Maintenance and Repair (M&R) section. The work includes working with pipes and fittings from a range of high pressure to low pressure steam, water, sewer, fire sprinkler, and gas systems.
Responsibilities
- Welding repairs and fabrication requiring the use of oxygen, acetylene, arc welding, and pipe welding.
- Inspecting, adjusting, cleaning, and repairing plumbing fixtures and systems, steam operated equipment, heating and water systems, kitchen and laundry equipment, air compressors, medical compressed air systems, vacuum systems, oxygen systems, and natural gas distribution systems.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints and manufacturers' specifications for installing and repairing equipment.
- Making safety and preventive maintenance inspections of utility systems and equipment in accordance with VA regulations and National Codes.
- Performing preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment and systems to ensure optimum performance.
Requirements
- Ability to maintain and repair supply, disposal and utility systems such as water, sewer and gas systems and associated components.
- Physical ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
- Capability to handle, lift, carry and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds.
