Overview

The Pipefitter position is located at the Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center in Beckley, West Virginia, under the Facilities Management Service line. The role involves installing, modifying, maintaining, and repairing high-temperature water and medium to high pressure piping systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Install, modify, and repair medium to high pressure piping systems and equipment.
• Plan and complete the routing and placement of systems leading to the equipment.
• Join, seal, and test systems and equipment for proper pressure and leak-free joints.
• Maintain and document the operation of the reverse osmosis system.
• Implement and update the Engineering Service Automated Engineering Management System.
• Install, maintain, and repair internal and external medical gas lines.
• Perform data entry and operate terminals and appropriate software.
• Weld joints and fittings using MIG, TIG, or electric arc welders.
• Document all work related to the medical gas system.
• Attend training and certification for asbestos removal and backflow device testing.
• Use shop mathematics to determine material sizes and types.
• Test and adjust systems for proper operations, flow, drainage, and sanitary conditions.

Requirements

• Ability to perform repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms.
• Physical capability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in uncomfortable positions.
• Ability to handle, lift, and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Dexterity and coordination for precise installation and repair in confined spaces.
• Knowledge of various utility systems and equipment.
