Overview
The Pipefitter position is located in the Facilities Maintenance Section of Engineering Service in West Los Angeles, California. The incumbent performs duties at the journeyman Pipefitter level, focusing on the installation, modification, and repair of plumbing systems.
Responsibilities
- Repairs plumbing systems by installing, modifying, and repairing utility, supply, and disposal systems.
- Works from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing and placement of systems.
- Uses tools such as plumb bobs, mercury gauges, and hydrostatic pumps for installation and repairs.
- Installs and repairs equipment including steam generators, pumps, and valves.
- Determines and installs necessary components to support system pressures and ensure proper operation.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and specifications for piping systems.
- Tests systems for proper operation, circulation, flow, pressure, and leak-free joints.
- Fits pipe sections using various methods including welding and soldering.
- Traces and troubleshoots pipelines to locate and repair leaks.
- Performs safety and preventive maintenance inspections of systems and equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Work Schedule: day shift schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 03:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or 03:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- Physical requirements include making repairs from ladders and scaffolding, and lifting items up to 50 pounds.
