Overview

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. is seeking a Pipe Welder 2/C to assist in the layout, welding, installation, testing, and repair of pipe and similar tubular products under supervision. The position requires adherence to safety and quality standards while performing various welding tasks.

Responsibilities

• Regular attendance at work and ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Comply with safety, ethics, and environmental rules while performing duties.
• Produce high quality welds with various materials including steel, stainless, and aluminum.
• Review layouts, blueprints, diagrams, or work orders in preparation for welding or cutting.
• Complete welds to specified standards using appropriate equipment and materials.
• Assist in the installation and verify operation of high-pressure steel pipes and fittings.
• Assist in testing installed piping systems in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Set up equipment and weld parts using various welding techniques.
• Repair and replace damaged pipe; fabricate and install metal fittings.
• Use appropriate hand and power tools to measure, cut, assemble, weld and install pipe.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Have knowledge of different welding processes and procedures.
• Pass a Carbon Steel 6G pipe test.
• Pass a CUNI tig test in the 6G position.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalence.
• One to three years of pipe welding experience desired.
• Working knowledge of equipment and techniques used in measuring, fitting, and welding steel.
• X-ray pipe welding experience with ability to weld pipe in all positions.
• Knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, OSHA, and ABS standards.
• Must pass SMAW 6G Pipe Test to become ABS Certified.
• Ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, or diagram form plans.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Ability to read a tape measure.
