Overview

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. is seeking a Pipe Welder 1/C to perform essential welding duties including planning, layout, installation, testing, and repair of various types of pipes and tubular products. The position requires compliance with safety regulations and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with safety, ethics, and environmental rules while performing duties.
  • Maintain regular attendance and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends.
  • Review layouts, blueprints, diagrams, or work orders in preparation for welding.
  • Complete welds to specified standards using appropriate equipment and materials.
  • Install and verify the operation of high-pressure steel pipes and fittings.
  • Repair and replace damaged pipes; fabricate and install metal fittings.
  • Use hand and power tools to measure, cut, assemble, weld, and install pipes.
  • Test installed piping systems according to applicable plans and specifications.
  • Set up equipment and weld parts using various welding techniques.
  • Troubleshoot equipment as necessary.
  • Produce high-quality welds with various materials.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Successfully pass a 6G Stainless Steel, CUNI, & Aluminum – TIG test.
  • Successfully pass a 6G Carbon Steel – root and cap test.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalence plus three to five years of pipe welding experience desired.
  • Working knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques for measuring, fitting, and welding steel.
  • X-ray pipe welding experience with the ability to weld pipe in all positions.
  • Knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, OSHA, and ABS standards.
  • Must pass SMAW 6G Pipe Test to become ABS Certified.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, or diagram forms.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.
  • Ability to read a tape measure.

  • May indirectly supervise and/or train subordinates.
  • Employee must be physically and medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Employee may be exposed to various hazards in a heavy industrial shipyard environment.
