Overview

The Pipefitter 1/C position at Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. involves assembling, installing, and testing piping for various systems according to plans and specifications. The company is an at-will employer and emphasizes safety and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, and test piping for various systems.
  • Work with other crafts as instructed by supervision.
  • Maintain regular attendance and work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Comply with safety, ethics, and environmental regulations.
  • Select specified types and sizes of pipes, fittings, and valves.
  • Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
  • Bend pipes according to specifications.
  • Install and verify operation of high-pressure steel pipes and fittings.
  • Repair and replace damaged pipes and fabricate metal fittings.
  • Test installed piping systems according to applicable plans.
  • Rig and flag cranes to move pipes safely.
  • Perform final hook-ups of systems and commissioning.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalence plus three to five years of pipefitting/plumbing experience desired.
  • Working knowledge of standard pipe craft formulas, materials, and drawings.
  • Knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used in measuring and fitting steel.
  • Pass SMAW Tack welding test to become ABS certified.
  • Knowledge of welding, ship terminology, and OSHA standards.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram forms.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and use a cutting torch.
