Overview
The Pipefitter 2/C position at Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. involves assisting in the assembly, installation, and testing of piping systems in accordance with industry standards. The role requires compliance with safety regulations and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a heavy industrial shipyard environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist other pipefitters in the assembly, installation, and pipe testing for various systems.
- Work with other crafts as instructed by supervision.
- Maintain regular attendance and work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Comply with safety, ethics, and environmental regulations.
- Select specified types and sizes of pipe, fittings, and valves.
- Assist in measuring and marking pipe for cutting and threading.
- Measure, cut, assemble, tack weld, and install all types of pipe and similar tubular products.
- Assist in the repair and replacement of damaged pipe and installation of fittings and valves.
- Test installed piping systems according to plans and specifications.
- Rig and flag cranes using hand signals to move pipe safely.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalence plus one to three years of pipefitting/plumbing experience desired.
- Working knowledge of standard pipe craft formulas, materials, and drawings.
- Knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used in measuring, fitting, and tack welding steel.
- Pass SMAW Tack welding test to become ABS certified.
- Knowledge of ship terminology and OSHA standards.
- Ability to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram form plans.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Ability to read a tape measure and use a cutting torch.

- Position requires physical activity including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
- Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Work may involve exposure to various hazards in a heavy industrial shipyard environment.
