Overview

The Shipfitter Supervisor at Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of workers involved in fabricating and installing metal structural parts in ships. This role requires adherence to safety regulations and effective management of crew productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate activities of workers fabricating and installing metal structural parts.
  • Ensure regular attendance and ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Comply with safety, ethics, and environmental regulations.
  • Assign work on multiple assignments and monitor progress onboard marine vessels.
  • Monitor work performance and productivity.
  • Assist in meeting production goals.
  • Manage employees and ensure safe work practices.
  • Lay out parts, bulkheads, and frames.
  • Loft parts from a table of offsets.
  • Make quality cuts with torch or plasma.
  • Flag cranes, figure weights, and rig all types of lifts.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One to three years of previous shipyard experience.
  • Previous supervision experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of ship terminology, safety, and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram forms.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.
  • Ability to read a tape measure.
  • Ability to use transits and levels.
  • Ability to fit pipe and handrails.
  • Ability to fit an I-Beam.

Additional Information

  • The position requires physical activity including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Employees must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Work may be performed at heights of a minimum of 50 feet.
