Job Description

Overview

Valmont is a Fortune 1000 company dedicated to advancing agricultural productivity and reimagining vital infrastructure. The Fitter Welder position involves fitting and welding steel, metal, and aluminum components to fabricate or repair products according to specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Follow fit and layout instructions described in detail drawings.
  • Ability to tack weld material into place.
  • Use motorized grinders, buffers, stone grinders, and drills to clean and prep material.
  • Use overhead cranes or jib cranes to move and hold material.
  • Assemble products by tack welding small parts to pole shafts using GMAW, FCAW, and/or SAW processes.
  • Work with steel pipe and measure on radiused surfaces.
  • Use plasma torch to cut steel and utilize jigs for cutting holes.
  • Work in confined areas to measure and assemble components.
  • Maintain and operate production tooling and welding equipment safely.
  • Produce high quality welds with low non-conformity rate.
  • Perform welding operations from blueprints or specifications.
  • Adjust welding equipment to prescribed settings.
  • Utilize safety devices and wear mandatory personal protective equipment.
  • Complete labor reporting and follow written procedures.
  • Meet code requirements including ultrasonic testing.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workplace.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Maintain a safe and productive working environment.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment and follow safety regulations.
  • Ability to meet or exceed production goals without sacrificing safety or quality.
  • Ability to read weld symbols and understand blueprints.
  • Ability to calculate simple mathematics and interpret shop drawings.
  • Basic working knowledge of computer programs like Microsoft Outlook.
  • Acceptable attendance and prior employment record.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes, prior experience preferred.
  • Ability to use and accurately read a tape measure.
  • Ability to use and accurately read levels, squares, and angle finders.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate positively with coworkers.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow work instructions.
  • Multi-pass, stack layering welding experience.
  • Three to five years' experience with fitting/welding in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use GMAW welding equipment for tack welds.
  • Ability to burn with a torch or willingness to learn.
  • Flexibility to work in different areas including Large Pole, Small Pole, Backweld, and/or Weld Repair.
  • Ability to pass GMAW weld test and maintain certification.

Additional Information

  • Evening shift from 4:00 pm to 2:30 am, Monday to Thursday.
  • Starting wage of $27.11/hr plus $1.50/hr shift differential.
