Overview
The Welder 1 position at General Dynamics NASSCO in Bremerton involves performing welding tasks safely and with high quality. Candidates should have significant experience, particularly in NAVSEA-related work, and must possess various welding certifications.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that the tank/compartment has an updated safe for hot work ticket and that requirements are met.
- Verify that conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written.
- Ensure that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site for the specific job.
- Comply with safety issues related to the specific job being accomplished.
- Confirm that you are trained or qualified for the assigned work.
- Utilize General Dynamics-NASSCO’s Safety Procedures for all torch work.
- Ensure that you and personnel under your direction work safely and productively.
- Complete a 30-minute cool down period in hot work areas.
- Assign and maintain fire watches in the proper position.
- Leave the job site in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.
- Ensure personnel have the necessary work package and technical documents.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent education.
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience, with at least two years being NAVSEA-related experience.
- Possess standard tools for a welder.
- Able to work different shifts.
- Good knowledge of shipboard spaces.
- Knowledge of weld symbols and general DWGs.
- Must pass various welding certifications including FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW.
- Able to lift 50 lbs.
- Able to safely hook up and operate a torch.
- Knowledge of Work Authorization Forms (WAFs).
- Ability to follow instructions and work well with others.
- Ability to gain access to local bases.
