Overview

The Welder position at General Dynamics NASSCO involves welding shell plating and fabricated components for vessels and structural assemblies. Candidates must have prior experience or training and be able to work in various conditions, including heights and confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Welds parts in position for fabrication of vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies.
• Uses carbon electrodes to cut, shape and groove metal.
• May prepare workplace for welding by cleaning and/or preheating.
• Examines weld sizes of weld beads.
• Cleans weld area; sweeps and removes scrap.
• Other job duties as may be assigned relevant to the trade.

Requirements

• Previous experience or training is required.
• Must be able to qualify in two gas shielded FCAW welding processes 71T-1 and 811N3 in the three positions.
• Knowledge of welding characteristics of metal.
• Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Must comprehend written and verbal instructions in English.
• Must be able to hear warning signals and read safety instructions.
