Job Description
Overview
General Dynamics NASSCO is part of the General Dynamics Marine Systems business unit, specializing in ship construction, repair, conversion, and maintenance for commercial and national defense assets. They are currently seeking Shipfitters J-4 for their Steel Shop in Norfolk, Virginia.
Responsibilities
- Plan and complete work with little supervision using blueprints.
- Layout plates, pipes, and structural shapes, including flat and complex layouts.
- Locate structures in relation to frames, longitudinal stringers, and centerlines.
- Understand weld symbols and their application for material preparation.
- Perform tack welding, burning, and use various power tools.
- Make templates for fabrications and installations of ship structures.
- Assemble foundations, deck houses, and specialized structures for the ship.
- Know the guidelines of 5S and be aware of standard items.
Requirements
- Journeyperson 4 (Shipfitter) level.
- Knowledge of ship-related nomenclature.
- Ability to work with blueprints with minimal supervision.
- Skills in welding and use of power tools.
