Overview

The Pipefitter position at General Dynamics NASSCO involves installing and maintaining ships’ piping systems, including steam, hydraulic, and oil lines. Candidates should have experience in marine pipefitting and be able to work in various environments, including confined spaces and at heights.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain ships’ piping systems following blueprints and work orders.
  • Plan layout of pipe sections and cut holes in bulkheads and decks for installation.
  • Operate shop machines to cut and thread pipe and fittings.
  • Bend pipe to specified shapes and secure with brackets.
  • Connect pipes to fixtures such as heat exchangers and pumps.
  • Repair, pack, and adjust valves.
  • Test installed systems for leaks and compliance with specifications.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent education preferred.
  • Two years on-the-job training at NASSCO in pipefitting or a minimum of three years of experience required.
  • Knowledge of marine piping systems, blueprint reading, and military specifications.
  • Ability to perform marine pipefitting, bending, and burning.
  • Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Comprehend written and verbal instructions in English.
