Overview

The Pipefitter 1st Class position at General Dynamics NASSCO involves safely and professionally accomplishing pipefitting work according to specifications. Candidates are expected to have significant experience and knowledge in various pipefitting techniques and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the tank/compartment has an updated safe for hot work ticket and that all requirements have been met.
  • Verify that conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written.
  • Ensure that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is present for the specific job being accomplished.
  • Comply with all safety issues related to the specific job being accomplished.
  • Confirm that you are trained or qualified for the work assigned.
  • Utilize General Dynamics-NASSCO’s Safety Procedures for all torch work.
  • Maintain safety and productivity while ensuring quality control.
  • Complete a 30-minute cool down period in hot work areas.
  • Assign and maintain fire watches in the proper position.
  • Leave the job site in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent education preferred.
  • At least 5 years of Pipefitting experience is required.
  • Knowledge of all the J1 and J2 requirements.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Good attendance record and ability to work as a team player.
  • Brazing qualifications for face feed and insert.
  • Knowledge of bending rolling offsets and 90’s on a hand bender and machine benders.
  • Knowledge of tack welding, pipe, and hangers.
  • Familiarity with standard items pertaining to pipe installation and testing.
  • Ability to hand prep piping for backing rings and butt welds using grinder or cutting machines.
  • Experience with P-1 piping and P-2 high energy pipe testing and installation.
  • Familiarity with QA checkpoints and necessary paperwork.
  • Ability to read micrometers and feeler gauges.
  • Ability to identify pipe material.
  • Basic knowledge of MIL STD 777.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work well with others.

Additional Information

  • Regular, reliable attendance on-site is essential.
  • Weekend work and/or extended hours may be required.
