Overview
This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, Industrial Department, Structural Shop in Baltimore, MD. The Shipfitter will perform various trades tasks involved in the construction, repair, or renovation of marine craft and vessels.
Responsibilities
- Use larger rollers to form ship hull plate from templates and measurements for installs.
- Develop templates, layout, and fabricate complex and simple sub-assemblies including shell plates, frames, bulkheads, deck beams, superstructures, foundations, ladders, and pipe rails.
- Use plasma arc and oxy-acetylene torch for burning, flushing, and heating material.
- Use lifting eyes, chain falls, overhead cranes, slings, chains, and other lifting gear to move material.
- Erect hull components on site according to specified lines such as struts, shaft tubes, and foundations.
- Perform tack-welding tasks in the 3F and 4F positions using SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW equipment.
- Complete mandatory training and other necessary training for success in the position.
