Overview
The Associate Instructor - Welding position at Northern Virginia Community College is a restricted appointment focused on providing quality instruction in welding. The role emphasizes excellent teaching and student support, with an instructional load of 33 to 39 credit hours and 39 to 49 contact hours over the academic year.
Responsibilities
- Provide quality instruction for students in welding.
- Work with students in classrooms, laboratories, and individual conferences.
- Help students develop their interests and abilities.
- Meet assigned classes regularly and submit required records and reports.
- Teach prescribed courses of study with established texts.
- Conduct requisite student conferences and hold required office hours.
- Maintain current competence in the discipline or field of specialization.
- Advise students on academic and career matters.
Requirements
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with SMAW, GMAW, GTAW processes.
- OXY-Fuel and plasma arc capability.
- Demonstrate welding ability.
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Five years of full-time occupational field experience in welding.
- College-level teaching experience (preferred).
- AWS certified welder (present or past) (preferred).
- Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats (preferred).
- Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds (preferred).
- Experience in CNC Plasma Table operation and advanced fabrication techniques (preferred).
