Overview
The Road Crew Metal Fabricator is responsible for fabricating, transporting, and installing custom metal projects on job sites. This role requires hands-on metal fabrication skills combined with field installation work, frequent travel, and collaboration with project managers and crew members to ensure high-quality, safe, and timely project completion.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate metal components using blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications
- Cut, weld, grind, drill, and assemble metal parts using appropriate tools and equipment
- Load, transport, and unload fabricated materials to and from job sites
- Install metal projects on-site, including structural, architectural, or custom components
- Perform field welding, fitting, and adjustments as needed during installation
- Read and interpret technical drawings and measurements accurately
- Ensure all work meets quality standards, project specifications, and safety regulations
- Operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and lifting equipment safely
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, project managers, and crew members
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition
- Troubleshoot and resolve on-site installation issues as they arise
- Comply with company policies, OSHA standards, and job-site safety requirements
Requirements
- Proven experience in metal fabrication and welding (MIG, TIG, and/or Stick preferred)
- Experience with on-site installation or construction-related work
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to travel regularly and work on road crew assignments
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50+ lbs.)
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various weather conditions
- Comfortable working at heights and in active construction environments
- Certifications in welding or metal fabrication
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Experience with structural steel, custom fabrication, or industrial installations
- Forklift, boom lift, or crane operation experience
