Overview
The Mechanic/Welder C position at Altec Industries involves performing welding and assembly tasks while adhering to safety regulations. The role emphasizes teamwork, quality, and continuous improvement in a challenging work environment.
Responsibilities
- Follow all safety regulations and maintain a clean work area.
- Ignite torches and start power supplies for welding.
- Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, and bolt component parts.
- Detect faulty operation of equipment and notify supervisors.
- Operate manual welding equipment using the MIG welding process.
- Monitor welding processes to avoid overheating and material distortion.
- Examine and measure workpieces for defects and specifications.
- Set up and operate hand and power tools common to welding.
- Lay out, position, align, and secure parts prior to assembly.
- Use a plasma cutter to cut steel materials to specifications.
- Re-wire batteries as necessary if moved on the truck.
- Remove air tanks from the outside to the inside of the truck.
- Cross train in other areas of final assembly.
- Participate in Rapid Continuous Improvement events as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must hold Altec Weld Certification or have six months of assembly experience.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices.
- Experience with grinders, bolt machinery, overhead cranes, welding torches, and cutting torches.
- Mathematical skills for dimensions and ability to read blueprints.
- Certified MIG welder.
