Overview

The Mechanic/Welder C position at Altec Industries involves performing welding and assembly tasks while adhering to safety regulations. The role emphasizes teamwork, quality, and continuous improvement in a challenging work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety regulations and maintain a clean work area.
  • Ignite torches and start power supplies for welding.
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, and bolt component parts.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment and notify supervisors.
  • Operate manual welding equipment using the MIG welding process.
  • Monitor welding processes to avoid overheating and material distortion.
  • Examine and measure workpieces for defects and specifications.
  • Set up and operate hand and power tools common to welding.
  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts prior to assembly.
  • Use a plasma cutter to cut steel materials to specifications.
  • Re-wire batteries as necessary if moved on the truck.
  • Remove air tanks from the outside to the inside of the truck.
  • Cross train in other areas of final assembly.
  • Participate in Rapid Continuous Improvement events as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must hold Altec Weld Certification or have six months of assembly experience.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices.
  • Experience with grinders, bolt machinery, overhead cranes, welding torches, and cutting torches.
  • Mathematical skills for dimensions and ability to read blueprints.
  • Certified MIG welder.
