Overview

The Welder is responsible for welding, cutting, grinding, chipping, and cleaning up projects, working closely with the Superintendent, Foreman, and other skilled crafts persons to ensure successful project completion.

Responsibilities

• Work as assigned by the Fabrication Foreman on construction projects.
• Cut, weld, chip, and grind metal as required by the project.
• Utilize oxygen-acetylene cutting torch to cut metal from structures.
• Weld together pieces of sheet metal after they are pile driven into place.
• Stick rod weld in all positions to complete jobs.
• Rig cable for lifting and moving objects.
• Handle placement of steel plates and sheet piles using cranes and hand tools.
• Operate saws, presses, drills, and grinders to fabricate parts.
• Inspect and make minor repairs to welding equipment.

Requirements

• Ability to work closely with Foreman, Crane Operators, Helpers, and other skilled crafts persons.
• Knowledge of welding trade practices and materials.
• Understanding of physical characteristics of various metals used in construction.
• Ability to operate various types of equipment and devices safely.
• Proficiency in safe work practices in a marine environment.
• Capability to pass standard welding tests.
• Skill in operating acetylene and arc welding equipment and hand tools.
• Effective verbal communication skills.
• Ability to keep simple records of time and materials used.
• Capability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation.
• Ability to wear and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
