Job Description

Overview

As a Fitter, you will be responsible for assembling and fitting miscellaneous steel components according to technical drawings and blueprints, ensuring that they meet design specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
  • Weld steel members.
  • Move steel members into positions manually or with hoists or cranes.
  • Position, align, fit, and track weld parts to form complete units or subunits following blueprints and layout specifications.
  • Determine appropriate method and sequence of tasks to fabricate items efficiently.
  • Coach and train lower-level fitters to help them advance in their skill sets.
  • Assist foreman and managers in maintaining consistent workflow and production on the shop floor.
  • Ensure all peers follow safety policies.
  • Conduct thorough quality checks to identify and rectify defects.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and basic metalworking machinery.
  • Basic understanding of fabrication processes such as cutting, grinding, and drilling.
  • Ability to interpret simple technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Advanced skills in welding, including the ability to perform intricate welding tasks using various techniques.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and follow instructions.
  • Developing a keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy in the fabrication process.
  • Ability to handle physically demanding tasks and work in various positions.
  • Proficiency in using a broader range of fabrication tools and machinery for Fitter II.
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings for Fitter II.
  • Strong focus on quality assurance for Fitter II.
  • Developing advanced problem-solving skills for Fitter II.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage specific aspects of fabrication projects for Fitter II.
  • Mastery in using a wide range of fabrication tools and machinery for Fitter III.
  • Expertise in reading and interpreting complex technical drawings for Fitter III.
  • Strong leadership skills to oversee and manage a team of fitters for Fitter III.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks for Fitter III.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members for Fitter III.
  • Willingness and ability to train and mentor junior fitters for Fitter III.
