Overview

The Assistant Welder/Fitter position at HII's Mission Technologies division involves supporting fleet modernization operations primarily at the Woodlake Fabrication Shop in Chesapeake, VA. The role offers entry-level opportunities in technical trades, focusing on industrial fabrication duties under the guidance of senior tradespersons.

Responsibilities

• Display quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement, and performance consistent with company values.
• Gain trades and life experience while learning skills towards NAVSEA Welding Certification.
• Perform routine technical trades duties under direction, following blueprints and technical manuals.
• Support technical repair, installation, maintenance, and modification of structures and systems.
• Execute semi-skilled and unskilled tasks such as supplying materials and cleaning work areas.
• Assist in the fabrication, maintenance, and repair of various systems and equipment.
• Apply job skills and company policies to complete a range of tasks based on job and customer requirements.

Requirements

• High School education and 1 year of related experience, or Trade School or equivalent.
• Must be able to obtain medical clearance to wear a half-face respirator.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
• Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
• Must adhere to safety and quality procedures set forth by HII.
• Related technical Trade School or experience with structural fabrication, shipfitting, or welding.
• Experience comprehending blueprints or engineering sketches.
• Prior NAVSEA certified welding experience.
• Previous work related to technical trades.
• Candidates with a current or active DoD confidential clearance or higher are preferred.
• Must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes, no less than 30 lbs.
• Able to work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, and confined spaces.
