Overview
The Coil Leak Remediation Welding Specialist role at BAC involves hands-on work in a team environment focused on precision testing, expert welding, and leadership to ensure product performance. The position emphasizes safety, quality, and innovation while promoting a culture of trust and responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Guarantee coil integrity through rigorous test tank diagnostics and first-time-right leak repairs.
- Lead by example on safety, quality, and 5S; set the standard for the area.
- Grow the team’s capability by training junior mechanics and mentoring on process improvements.
- Own personal/team safety; enforce safety rules and PPE usage.
- Conduct daily schedule reviews; interpret work tickets and route completed coils to staging for the next operation.
- Execute leak testing and repairs (tube-to-tube, headers, tube repairs) to spec.
- Update/post metrics (leak rates, coil quality traveler); keep the Quality metric report accurate.
- Maintain coil proficiency logs with comments and corrective actions.
- Complete daily ISO documentation; sustain 5S.
- Communicate with Team Leads, Station Lead, Inspectors, and Supply Chain to resolve issues.
- Assist with department training on safety, quality/ISO procedures, production goals, and equipment cross-training.
- Mentor LEAN behaviors; participate in continuous improvement projects.
- Improve departmental safety performance, including near-miss reporting and safety metrics; contribute to safety improvements.
- Advance sustainability: reduce waste, maximize recycling, and minimize energy/water use.
- Promote innovation; turn new ideas into business opportunities.
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience in the coil department (preferred).
- Proficient in English, written and verbal; effective, professional communicator.
- Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving, and teamwork; able to lead small groups and mentor others.
- Responsive to changing schedules; adaptable and flexible.
- Product knowledge of coil and assembly processes; general knowledge of BAC equipment construction.
- Understands welding symbols; reads BAC assembly, fabrication, and welding drawings.
- Uses basic math and handheld measuring tools; reads ruler, combination square, protractor, metal gauge, and micrometer.
- Proficient with oxy-fuel and plasma arc burning; experienced in test tank repairs (tube-to-tube/tube, header).
- Understands bill of material; certified to operate overhead crane and jib boom with knowledge of balance/load limits.
- Strong grasp of LEAN and Continuous Improvement; high competence with ISO procedures/policies/instructions.
- Safety-first mindset; aware of normal hazards and takes proper precautions.
Additional Information
- The working environment includes lifting up to 50lbs.
- Standing is to be expected up to 80% of the time.
- Working hours can include any of three shifts and generally are scheduled for forty hours a week.
- Some weekend overtime is to be expected.
- Working temperatures include both wide fluctuations within the plant as well as ambient outside temperatures.
