Overview
At General Scrap Inc., we prioritize collaboration and problem-solving among our team members to ensure growth and success for both the business and its employees. We are currently seeking a night shift welder for our Denver facility to handle various metal fabrication and welding tasks while maintaining a safe working environment.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret design blueprints.
- Prepare fabrication and welding for various metal components and structures.
- Receive instructions, drawings, and work orders for assigned jobs.
- Interpret drawings and sketches and plan work procedures, tools, and material requirements.
- Select materials appropriate for each job.
- Lay out work, prepare sketches, and determine required stock sizes.
- Clean and prepare surfaces to be welded as required.
- Set up, assemble, and tack-weld parts, constructing special fixtures as needed.
- Perform gas and electric welding in all positions.
- Build up worn or defective parts.
- Clean, grind, and flame-anneal parts and welded joints as required.
- Use cutting and burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and cut materials to size and shape.
- Exercise all safety precautions and ensure proper handling of materials and equipment.
- Work in both shop and field environments.
- Perform work requiring knowledge of welding properties of various metals and the effects of shrinkage, warpage, and expansion.
Requirements
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–3 years of experience working on shredders is considered an asset.
- 3–5 years of experience in the metal/non-metal mining industry is considered an asset.
- 3–5 years of welding experience (D1.1).
- Professional certification from the American Welding Society (AWS).
- Proficiency in SMAW (stick welding), GMAW (MIG welding), and carbon air arc gouging.
- Ability to work in a heavy industrial environment exposed to heat, humidity, fumes, odors, dust, coal, and noise.
