Responsibilities
- Lay out, position, align, fit together, and weld fabricated parts of structural metal products in the shop.
- Work from blueprints and use fixtures to assemble frame, body, and some machinable parts.
- Locate and mark centerlines and reference points onto the workpiece.
- Remove high spots and cut bevels.
- Straighten warped or bent parts.
- Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps for welding or riveting.
- Use fixtures, clamps, bolts, jacks, hand tools, measuring devices, and welding equipment.
- Report for work on time and ready to perform.
- Follow all safe work practices and maintain a clean work area.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; must have at least one year of apprenticeship or on-the-job training.
- Ability to read blueprints efficiently and accurately.
- Ability to use a tape measure accurately.
- Skills to produce assigned work according to ASME and Merrick Quality designations.
- Skills to complete .045 E71-T, FCAW, 3G Vertical and .045 E308-L, MIG, 2G Horizontal Weld Certification tests.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables.
- Ability to interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions.
- Certificates in .045 E71-T, FCAW, 3G Vertical and .045 E308-L, MIG, 2G Horizontal Weld Certifications.
