Overview

Towson University is a top-100 public university located north of Baltimore, enrolling over 19,000 students. The Steamfitter performs skilled work in assembling, installing, repairing, and maintaining high and low pressure steam hot water systems, along with general plumbing duties as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains various piping systems including hydraulic, pneumatic, steam, and hot water.
  • Diagnoses problems and repairs heat radiation units, gas and oil-fired hot water boilers, and piping.
  • Cuts, bends, threads, welds, or brazes various types of pipes.
  • Ensures installation and repair of systems adhere to code requirements and specifications.
  • Reads, interprets, and works from blueprints.
  • Operates and maintains tools and equipment of the steam fitting trade.
  • Provides guidance and training in steamfitting work to maintenance personnel.

Requirements

  • Four years progressively responsible experience in the steamfitting trade.
  • Additional related experience and formal education may substitute for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of thermodynamic principles and methods used in the steamfitting trade.
  • General knowledge of building construction or maintenance practices and safety procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and prepare estimates of time and material.
  • Ability to work in hazardous environments and wear personal protective equipment.
