Overview
The Welder – Sheet Metal & Structural Fabrication is responsible for fabricating, fitting, and welding sheet-metal and structural steel components according to specifications and quality standards. This role requires strong welding skills and a commitment to safety and workmanship, supporting both commercial and industrial fabrication projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform MIG, TIG, and/or Flux welding on sheet metal and structural steel components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and weld symbols.
- Fit, tack, and weld assemblies to required tolerances.
- Inspect welds for quality, alignment, and dimensional accuracy.
- Grind, finish, and prepare welded assemblies as required.
- Set up welding equipment and select appropriate materials.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Communicate fabrication issues or discrepancies to supervision.
- Follow all company safety and quality standards.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Use required PPE at all times.
- Report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately.
- Participate in safety training and meetings.
Requirements
- 2+ years welding experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in MIG welding; TIG and Flux preferred.
- Ability to weld thin-gauge sheet metal without warping.
- Experience welding structural steel.
- Ability to read blueprints and weld symbols.
- Strong attention to detail and workmanship.
- AWS welding certification(s).
- Experience with HVAC, industrial, or architectural fabrication.
- Stainless steel or aluminum welding experience.
- Forklift or overhead crane experience.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and work in various positions.
- Ability to work in a shop environment with heat, noise, sparks, and fumes.
