Overview
Employees in this classification have an advanced understanding and competency in welding and grinding operations, performing at the highest degree of proficiency and efficiency in the facility.
Responsibilities
- Setup, operate and maintain manual or automatic welding, grinding and/or cutting equipment.
- Understand and work from drawings and/or specifications with proficiency.
- Recognize, setup and operate hand and power tools common to the industry.
- Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Determine welding procedures to avoid warping, shrinking or otherwise distorting weldments.
- Position and secure work pieces using overhead cranes, hoists, fork lifts, etc.
- Grind to a # 7 finish using procedures determined by themselves.
- Train employees on proper use of OD pipe polishing and flat bar polishing equipment.
- Fuse dissimilar metals.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Maintain regular, in-person attendance due to necessary teamwork and personal interactive nature of this position.
- Work overtime as a mandatory condition of employment.
Requirements
- Knowledge of metallurgy to minimize distortion while welding.
- Advanced knowledge of grinding abrasives and material surface finishes.
- Knowledge of Paul Mueller Company general work procedures regarding marking and tagging material with proper work order number and heat codes.
- Advanced blueprint reading knowledge.
- Must obtain and maintain ASME certifications.
- Previous Machine Shop experience or related technical training.
- HS diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
