Overview
The primary responsibility of the Welding Mechanic at ColonialWebb is to lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and weld piping and piping systems for various industrial applications. ColonialWebb is a full-service MEP contractor with over 50 years of experience, committed to quality and expertise across a diverse range of specialties.
Responsibilities
- Determine required equipment and welding method by applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
- Maintain strict adherence to all company safety rules, regulations, procedures, and practices.
- Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications.
- Cut pipe using appropriate tools and thread pipe using a threading machine.
- Assemble and install a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings.
- Join piping by proper means such as welded, grooved, threaded, soldered, brazed, or fused.
- Weld pipes/metals with various techniques including electric, gas, arc, MIG, and TIG.
- Test piping systems for leaks and observe gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.
- Teach and coach apprentices and helpers to work safely and productively.
- Secure pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers using hand tools.
- Weld holding fixtures to structural steel members if necessary.
- Remove slag and rough spots with a portable grinder, file, or scraper.
- Handle materials as necessary.
Requirements
- Possess trade license.
- Possess knowledge of BOCA and OSHA safety regulations.
- Possess knowledge of the properties of various welding rods and fluxes used in welding.
- Ability to obtain AWS 6g certification.
- Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
- Ability to pass ColonialWebb weld test.
- Ability to work from drawings, submittals, and specifications.
- Ability to make decisions with information on hand.
- Demonstrate knowledge of basic math skills.
- Ability to communicate and deal effectively with teammates in other trades.
- Ability to work easily and skillfully with hands.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and work in a team environment.
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
- Ability to maintain a sense of urgency and remain calm when working toward deadlines.

Additional Information
- Full-time, Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend work.
- Unscheduled overtime may be required as necessary.
