Overview

The primary responsibility of the Welding Mechanic at ColonialWebb is to lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and weld piping and piping systems for various industrial applications. ColonialWebb is a full-service MEP contractor with over 50 years of experience, committed to quality and expertise across a diverse range of specialties.

Responsibilities

  • Determine required equipment and welding method by applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
  • Maintain strict adherence to all company safety rules, regulations, procedures, and practices.
  • Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications.
  • Cut pipe using appropriate tools and thread pipe using a threading machine.
  • Assemble and install a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings.
  • Join piping by proper means such as welded, grooved, threaded, soldered, brazed, or fused.
  • Weld pipes/metals with various techniques including electric, gas, arc, MIG, and TIG.
  • Test piping systems for leaks and observe gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.
  • Teach and coach apprentices and helpers to work safely and productively.
  • Secure pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers using hand tools.
  • Weld holding fixtures to structural steel members if necessary.
  • Remove slag and rough spots with a portable grinder, file, or scraper.
  • Handle materials as necessary.

Requirements

  • Possess trade license.
  • Possess knowledge of BOCA and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Possess knowledge of the properties of various welding rods and fluxes used in welding.
  • Ability to obtain AWS 6g certification.
  • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Ability to pass ColonialWebb weld test.
  • Ability to work from drawings, submittals, and specifications.
  • Ability to make decisions with information on hand.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic math skills.
  • Ability to communicate and deal effectively with teammates in other trades.
  • Ability to work easily and skillfully with hands.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to maintain a sense of urgency and remain calm when working toward deadlines.

Additional Information

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend work.
