Overview
The Traveling Heavy Industrial Ironworker position involves reading blueprints, fabricating metal parts, and hoisting steel structures. Robinson Construction is a Design-Build General Contractor specializing in process-intense manufacturing facilities across various industries in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Reads specifications or blueprints to determine material requirements.
- Fabrics metal parts according to blueprints or supervisor instructions.
- Unloads and positions prefabricated steel units for hoisting.
- Hoists steel beams, girders, or columns into place using cranes.
- Verifies alignment of structural steel members using various tools.
- Cuts, bends, or welds steel pieces using appropriate equipment.
- Positions structural steel members using hand tools.
- Bolts aligned structural-steel members for permanent installation.
- Assembles hoisting equipment or rigging to move heavy materials.
- Dismantles structures or equipment as needed.
- May perform a variety of duties including those of other positions.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Successful completion of an Ironworker apprenticeship preferred.
- 3 or more years of experience required.
- Industrial machine experience preferred.
- Current OSHA 10 or MSHA Certification preferred.
- TWIC card preferred.
- Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and tools.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- Ability to work as a team and independently with moderate supervision.
- Ability to visualize layouts from plans and prints.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems that may arise.
- Physical ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

- Travel, overtime, shiftwork, holidays, and weekends may be required.
