Overview
The Welder will provide hands-on fabrication, repair, and structural support for the Fleet team, ensuring all welding and metal fabrication work is completed safely, on time, within specifications, and to Wilmot’s quality standards. This role involves working independently and alongside teammates, reporting to the Production Manager.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to Wilmot’s safety protocols and report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns.
- Perform welding and metal fabrication on mobile trailers and storage containers.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders.
- Operate welding equipment (MIG, TIG, Stick) and related tools safely and efficiently.
- Cut, fit, and assemble metal components using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Inspect completed welds for structural integrity and compliance with specifications.
- Perform grinding, torch cutting, and finishing work as needed.
- Assist with structural repairs and modifications for delivery readiness.
- Provide backup support for inspections of returned leased buildings.
- Maintain welding equipment and ensure proper storage and organization of tools.
- Maintain the 5S methodology in the workspace.
- Report deficiencies of workspace 5S principles and work with the Production Manager.
- Attend and participate in safety meetings and training sessions.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and other departments.
- Provide feedback and suggestions for process improvements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- 1–3 years of welding and metal fabrication experience required.
- Experience with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding required.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings preferred.
- Modular construction or trailer/container experience preferred.
- Welding certification (AWS or equivalent) preferred.
- Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift/move 50 lbs.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Team-oriented with a positive 'can-do' attitude.
- Ability to take direction, manage timelines and deadlines, and troubleshoot issues.
- Strong work ethic, including reliability, honesty, and accountability.
