Overview

General Dynamics NASSCO is seeking three J1 Pipefitters for their Pipe Shop located in Norfolk, Virginia. The company specializes in ship construction, repair, conversion, and maintenance for commercial and national defense assets.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints and install piping systems aboard ship.
• Perform shop prefab on piping systems using sketches/templates developed from blueprints.
• Understand tag out procedures for piping systems prior to working on them.
• Sil-braze piping systems.
• Bend piping manually or by machine using templates.
• Hydrostatic test piping systems.
• Fit and install mechanically attached fittings.
• Thread piping and tap holes to proper sizes.
• Prep piping for welding using grinders or beveling machines.
• Install pipe hangers/supports according to hanger drawings.
• Identify and apply various types of pipe and fitting materials.
• Properly fit flanged joints including gaskets and fasteners.
• Set up and perform hot water flushing on sil-braze piping systems.

Requirements

• Reliable transportation.
• Basic stick ruler measurements.
• Basic knowledge of hand tools and testing equipment.
• Ability to work with general supervision and complete small tasks.
• Knowledge of various testing and obstructed flows.
• Knowledge of installing various pipe hangers (Type 1 and Type 2).
• Torch safety knowledge.
• Basic blanking and tagging knowledge.
• Basic knowledge of ship design and layout.
• Familiarity with Work Authorization Forms (WAFs).
• Ability to lift 50lbs.
• Familiarity with safety regulations and competent person tickets.

• No security clearance required.
• Regular, reliable attendance on-site is essential.
• Weekend work and/or extended hours may be required.
