Overview
Vanport Marine is seeking experienced marine Welders/Ship Fitters for shipboard and industrial projects, with a focus on topside marine repair and metal fabrication. The company is based in Portland and serves the PNW, CA, AK, and HI.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate, fit, and weld various metal surfaces or pipes for vessels and industrial projects using different types of welding equipment.
- Weld deck and bulkhead plating and fabricated components according to specifications.
- Perform layout work according to blueprints or reference lines.
- Work primarily dockside or aboard vessels, with some pre-fabrication at the shop.
- Complete related tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- High school or equivalent education preferred.
- Minimum three years of experience preferred.
- Completion of a trade school program in welding is helpful but not required.
- Knowledge of welding procedures and various types of welding equipment.
- Proficient in flat, vertical, overhead, and horizontal arc welding, including SMAW and flux-core.
- Ability to burn efficiently with a hand-cutting torch.
- Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Must comprehend written and verbal instructions in English, including blueprint reading.
- Must be able to hear warning signals and comprehend safety instructions.
- Able to work independently and in a team environment.
- Travel and overtime may be required up to 50%.
- A welding/proficiency test will be conducted prior to hire.
